Slender pod
Dangles —
Elongated opaque green water droplet —
From a tender stem
on a branch
on a bush
in Aunt Mary’s garden.

Her shy delight at showing
Me this tiny miracle
She can barely contain.
Its name
Says no
But invites yes

“Go ahead,” she says.
“Touch it.”
Touch the touch-me-not.

Obedient
Cautious
Afraid to get into trouble
Yet tempted by this delicate plant’s
Contradictory invitation
My little fingers reach out,
Poised to pinch,
Barely meet the green delicacy.

Sudden
explosion!
Slight
pop!

I jump.
I broke the plant’s rule.
A whole world unfurls
At slightest touch.
